Hortus Botanicus – A green day out

Hortus Botanicus – A green day out

Living in a city can cause you to miss a little bit of green from time to time. That’s when I head for the Hortus Botanicus in the eastern part of Amsterdam. In this botanical garden you can find a variety of exotic plants and trees that are divided per original habitat. Once in a while they also organize themed guided tours, and children can entertain themselves during a scavenger hunt.

The visit of this venue will not take you longer than an hour, but it is perfect to combine with a lovely breakfast before it or a stress-free vegetarian lunch after it at Dignita. Their pancakes are ‘to die for’ and they serve good coffee in a glass facade hiding as a city garden. They also have a second establishment near the Vondelpark, but try to avoid this one between 11:00 and 14:00, as it is packed with part-timers bringing their children for a catch-up with friends, taking you forever to find a spot.
